- 본 학술대회는 East Asian Anthropological Association의 Annual Meeting과 함께 국제학술대회로 개최될 예정입니다. 공식적인 국제학술대회 기분에 맞출 수 있도록 하겠습니다. 

오랫동안 우리는 미래를 만들어왔다. 국가 경제를 계획하고, 날씨를 예측하고, 계약을 맺고, 사회운동 속에서 더 나은 세상을 열망하는 등 여러 미래를 만들어왔다. 그리고 지금은 그 어느 때보다 미래가 중요함과 동시에 불안을 만들어지고 있다. 인류세와 기후변화, 불투명한 경제 전망, 민주적 절차의 위기 등이 정해진 기간에 정해진 경로에 따라 삶을 개선할 수 있다는 확신을 약화시켰고 합리적인 계획의 관리 가능한 범위를 칭하는 가까운 미래(near future)가 물러나고 종말, 소멸, 불확실성이 부각되고 있다.

본 학술대회는 지방적 지식을 통해 지방을 어떻게 개념화하고 그 미래를 다시 기획할 수 있을지를 검토하고자 한다.

과거는 미래와의 관계에 어떤 영향을 미치고 있는가? 미래에 대한 상상은 현재 우리가 직면한 사회 문제와 우려에 대해 무엇을 알려주는가? 정치, 윤리와 감정이 결합되며 어떤 미래가 중요하게 만들거나 중요하지 않게 되는가?가까운 미래를 계획하고 실행하고 평가했던 원리가 중앙의 관점이었다면, 앞으로의 미래 사회는 보다 지방적이어야 할 것이다. 전지구적 연결과 중앙-지역 관계가 여전히 큰 영향을 지니는 상황에서 지방 사회와 지방 공동체는 어떻게 미래를 만들 수 있는가?

“Local Knowledge and Localizing Future” 01-02 November 2024
The East Asian Anthropological Association is a scholarly association of teachers and students of anthropology based in East Asia and engaged in anthropological work on East Asia. This year’s meeting will be in South Korea in early November.

It will be jointly organized by the Korean Society of Cultural Anthropology with the theme of “Local Knowledge and Localizing Future.”

We've been making futures for a long time. We've planned national economies, predicted the weather, made contracts, and aspired to a better world in social movements. And now, more than ever, the future matters and creates anxiety. The Anthropocene, climate change, uncertain economic prospects, and crises in democratic processes have undermined confidence in the ability to improve lives along a set path in a set timeframe, and the near future - the manageable range of rational planning - has receded in favor of apocalypse, annihilation, and uncertainty.

This conference aims to examine how local knowledge can help us conceptualize the local and re-envision its future. How does the past influence our relationship to the future? What do our imaginings of the future tell us about the social issues and concerns we face today? How do politics, ethics, and emotions combine to make certain futures matter or not matter? If the near future has been planned, implemented, and evaluated from a central perspective, the future society of today will need to be more local. How can local societies and local communities shape the future when global connections and center-local relationships still have a strong influence?

We hope that you will propose a panel or an individual paper for this conference. You do not need to be a member of EAAA at present in order to submit a panel or paper; you become a member automatically by attending this conference. Currently, we are planning to request funding to organize an international conference from the Korean National Research Foundation. To do so, we need an estimate of international presenters based on the abstract submission. Accordingly, early submission of a preliminary EAAA panel proposal or EAAA individual paper proposal, which will require an abstract in English would be greatly appreciated. You can change the title and the abstract later before the official call for papers deadline.
